We are thrilled to introduce our latest guest photographer, Lorita Catarin Preiano. A creative soul born and raised in the picturesque south of Switzerland, Lorita’s journey into photography is deeply personal and profoundly inspiring. By day, she is an architect, a profession that naturally complements her keen eye for structure and composition. Yet, it is through photography that Lorita finds an outlet to reconnect with herself, transforming her emotions into evocative visual poetry.

Lorita’s photographic journey began during her adolescence, and over the years, the act of capturing images evolved into something more than a passion. For her, it has become an essential ritual—a way to pause, reflect, and immerse herself in moments of solitude. She often ventures to places close to home, familiar landscapes that serve as both sanctuary and muse. These quiet walks recharge her spirit and provide the perfect backdrop for her introspective art.

What makes Lorita’s approach truly unique is her ability to adapt her tools to her emotional state. She carries with her an assortment of cameras, each capable of translating her feelings into distinct visual languages. Whether it’s the texture of the weather or the mood of a location, Lorita’s choice of equipment becomes an extension of her intuition.

“When I arrive in a place, I stop, observe for a long time, and let myself be completely enveloped by the atmosphere”

Only after absorbing the essence of her surroundings does she begin to shoot. This thoughtful process imbues her work with a melancholic beauty—a reflection of her inner self. For Lorita, photography is more than an art form; it’s therapy, a way to channel her emotions into something positive and meaningful.

A significant turning point in Lorita’s artistic journey came four years ago when she received a Polaroid SX-70 camera as a gift. It was, as she describes, “love at first sight.” The instant nature of Polaroid photography captivated her, and soon, it became an obsession. She later added a Polaroid Now+ to her collection, allowing her to seamlessly switch between colour and black-and-white films, depending on her mood and the story she wanted to tell.

Polaroid cameras became the perfect medium for her to explore dreamy, mysterious landscapes that straddle the line between reality and fantasy. Through techniques like filters, double exposures, and even unintentional errors in light assessments, Lorita transforms ordinary scenes into surreal worlds. Her images often feature elements like solitary trees dissolving into mist, serene lakes reflecting muted skies, and soft light enveloping everything in a tranquil silence. These dreamscapes evoke a sense of timelessness, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the indistinct details.

For Lorita, photography is an invitation to escape from the mundanity of reality. Her images blur the boundaries between earth and sky, creating a suspended sense of time and space. The “banal” becomes extraordinary, and nature’s subtleties reveal their profound beauty.

“This kind of scenery leaves ample space for the imagination”

Her photographs evoke distant memories and dreams, offering a momentary refuge for the soul.

Lorita’s work reminds us of the transformative power of photography. Her images resonate with those who seek to find beauty in the ephemeral and the everyday. Through her lens, landscapes become mirrors of emotion, and moments once fleeting are immortalized as timeless expressions of art.

We are honoured to feature Lorita and invite you to immerse yourself in her world—a place where silence speaks, light dances, and dreams come to life.
