Jhon Buitrago, a photographer from Colombia, has been making his mark on the European stage for a few years now with his work, in which the space between light and magic merges with experimental finishes. His craftsmanship involves using expired films that are developed in the laboratory and then digitized, with the negatives exposed on Polaroid 600 sheets. He finishes by transferring the emulsion to 100% acid-free cotton paper.
This delicate and professional work is presented today as a review of the origins of experimentation in the world of instant format, honouring Buitrago but also inviting artists from all over the world to continue these legacies. In this photographic series, entitled ‘CONTRALUZ’, the fight between light and darkness captures shapes and textures in the emulsions. Chemistry, art, paper, delicacy, and patience all come together to create these beautiful pieces.
