Carlos Sánchez Barragán is a mysterious man, who says that he doesn’t like talking about himself. So, little is known about him rather than, as all our heroes, he is a man of many talents. According to Carlos, life hasn’t been easy on him, but love has always accompanied him, and so did his writing. Carlos would never stop writing, because as Chantal Maillard said – “it’s the most rapid form for me to move”, and the movement is everything. So next Wednesday Carlos is presenting his new book “Creation and Belief”.
The book was a response to something that Gilles Deleuze explored several times in his last pieces: the urge to believe in this world. In this one, and not in any other one, as people do these days! Carlos Sánchez Barragán, as Deleuze and Nietzsche before him, rejects all transcendence and the belief of a better reality than ours. What he argues about in his book is that, indeed, it is necessary that we return to believe in this world; but to be able to believe one has to create.
Apart from being a writer, Carlos Sánchez Barragán is also a co-owner of the famous bar Olimpia (where he will also host the presentation of the book) since 2012. Carlos believes that bars are a great place for meetings, and without meetings, there is no creativity. The other day the bar got a new wall shutter, painted by Xavi Pons, and features the so called Madonniche, which you can see on one of the photos. Coincidentally, it is also the “Creation and Belief” book cover art. So, believe, create, and come hear Carlos present the book on Wednesday.
Carlos Sánchez Barragán es un hombre misterioso al cuál no le gusta mucho hablar de sí mismo, así que es poco lo que se sabe de él en nuestras esferas, pero en común con nuestros héroes, es un hombre con muchos talentos. Según Carlos, la vida no ha sido benevolente con él, pero el amor nunca lo ha abandonado, al igual que su pasión por la escritura. Carlos nunca pararía de escribir, tal como Chantal Maillard decía “es la forma más veloz que tengo de moverme”, Y el movimiento (cuestión de máxima importancia filosófica) lo es todo. La vida es movimiento. Así que este miércoles Carlos presenta su nuevo libro “Creación y Creencia”.
El libro fue una respuesta a algo que Gilles Deleuze exploró muchas veces en sus últimas piezas: la necesidad (urgente) de volver a creer en este mundo. En este, ¡no en cualquier otro como la gente hace en estos días! Carlos Sánchez Barragán, como Deleuze y Nietzche antes que él, rechaza toda trascendencia y el creer en cualquier mejor realidad que la que vivimos. Lo que el reniega en su libro es eso, en que es necesario que volvamos a creer en este mundo, pero para creer hay que crear.
Aparte de escritor, Carlos también es uno de los dueños del famoso bar Olimpia en Barcelona (donde también hará la presentación de su libro) desde 2012. Él cree que los bares son un excelente sitio para encuentros, y según esta lógica, sin ellas no hay creatividad.
