Analog or digital photography, objectification or sexual empowerment, reification or liberation, art or pornography?
Today we share the gallery of the creative German photographer Timo Schäfers that we are sure will give something to talk about.
His gallery is snapshots, which mostly use naked body as a motive. I would not know for sure if in this case the artist uses the body as a purely aesthetic tool, if there are clear discursive determinations, or if we must start assessing the limits of the flesh.
His photographs challenge us to discern between the forbidden and obscene; between our established hypocritical morality and the simple and pure enjoyment of the aesthetics. All this will depend largely on the eye of the beholder.
The body is presented throughout the photograph on countless occasions, dressed and naked; mostly as a search for the ideals of the present beauty, but how to establish if the person portrayed is being sexually objectified or dominated? Not to mention the possible motivations not detectable with a simple view. Where is the limit between the sexual objectification, beauty and art? Probably, it is in who or what has the power.
Timo is experimenting with nakedness through the deep and challenging looks. He uses bodies as compositional elements and exposes his vision of what a body represents to himself.
Nudity is a means of experimentation and freedom without limits like any other, a component of the landscape, and should be treated as an element of it.
We must regain the use of bodies in art by transforming them into something pure, natural and not hypersexualized.
I know that it is highly naive to think that art has no repercussions or to forget that bodies are born politicized, but the truth is that the objectification of the subjects can occur in any form, whether dressed to the brim or completely naked.

Su galería esta repleta de instantáneas utilizando en su mayoría, el cuerpo, el cuerpo desnudo como motivo. No sabría decir con certeza si en este caso el artista emplea el cuerpo como una herramienta meramente estética, si existen claras determinaciones discursivas o si tenemos que entrar a valorar los límites de la carne.
Sus fotografías, nos retan a discernir entre lo prohibido y obsceno (si es que esto último existe), nuestra hipócrita moralidad instaurada o el simple y puro disfrute de lo estético, no éste siendo necesariamente bello. Todo ello, dependerá en gran medida del ojo que lo contemple.
El cuerpo ha sido representado a lo largo de la fotografía en infinidad de ocasiones, vestido y desnudo; en su mayoría, como búsqueda de los ideales de la belleza presente, ¿Pero, cómo discernir si la persona retratada está siendo sexualmente objetificada o tiene el dominio? Por no hablar de las posibles motivaciones no detectables a simple vista. ¿Dónde se encuentra el límite entre objetificación sexual, belleza o arte? Probablemente en quién o qué tenga el poder.
Timo, experimenta la desnudez con libertad a través de miradas profundas y desafiantes. Utiliza los cuerpos como elementos compositivos y expone su visión de lo que representa un cuerpo para sí mismo.
La desnudez, es un medio de experimentación y libertad sin límites como cualquier otro, un componente más del paisaje y así debería ser tratado, como un elemento más del mismo.
Debemos recuperar los cuerpos transformándolos en algo puro, natural y no hipersexualizado.
Sé que es altamente naíf pensar que el arte no tiene repercusiones u olvidar que los cuerpos nacen politizados pero lo cierto es que la cosificación de los sujetos puede darse en cualquier forma ya sea vestido hasta los topes o completamente desnudos.
