So, do you know what’s Nikkei? We bet not. To speak simply, Nikkei is the cooking of the Japanese disapora immigrants, in wherever places they find themselves in. Or even simpler, using Japanese cooking traditions and dishes with the local ingredients. There are not too many Nikkei kitchens in Barcelona, but one of them belongs to Mikio Tsunekawa.
But to speak about half-Japanese half-Chilean Mikio only in terms of food, would not be fair. Like many Polaroid of the day characters, Mikio has more than one talent – he used to be a Clown without Borders, in Israel in particular. Also he practices Japanese dance theatre butoh, and most importantly he is also currently directing his first movie.
Mikio recently installed his Nikkei restaurant in the Barcelona Food Makers space, and if you want time spent well guaranteed, you should go. The sessions take place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and apart from amazing ten dishes, its a lot of fun and jokes and meeting new people. And meeting the always smiling and cheerful Mikio is a must too.

Seguramente muchos de vosotros no, así que para explicarlo brevemente, Nikkei es la cocina creada por los japoneses en su diáspora, en cualquier parte del mundo donde se encuentren. O aún más simple, con tradiciones culinarias y platos japoneses con productos locales. No hay muchas opciones Nikkei en Barcelona, pero uno de los pocos pertenece a Mikio Tsunekawa.
Para hablando de Mikio no sería justo solo mencionar la comida. Como muchos de nuestros invitados en Polaroid of the day, Mikio tiene más de un talento – solía ser un Payaso Sin Fronteras en Israel; también practica la danza-teatro japonesa butoh, y ahora mismo está centrado en su proyecto más importante que es la dirección de su primera película.
Recientemente Mikio instaló su restaurante Nikkei en el espacio Barcelona Food Makers, y si queréis invertir bien vuestro tiempo es un imperdible. Las sesiones se llevan a cabo todos los jueves, viernes y sábados, y aparte de la carta de increíbles diez platos, se puede pasar un gran rato ameno y distraído conociendo gente nueva alrededor de su mesa. Además, conocer a el siempre encantador Mikio es un placer, como su cocina.
