Polaroid of the Day had the honour to visit what may as well be one of the most complete expositions dedicated to the history of the instant photography. Hamburg Museum of Art and Design is hosting “The Polaroid Project”.

The exhibition presents around 40 works by 120 artists, with polaroids shown ranging from the company’s beginnings in 1955 to 2015. “The Polaroid Project” illuminates the aesthetic spectrum of instant photography and, with 87 camera models and prototypes, presents the innovative technology that made this visual revolution possible in the first place.

The exhibition documents how the instant film, first introduced by Edwin H. Land in 1947 in New York, shortens the chronology of production, development and the joint viewing of a photograph to a few minutes. The introduction of instant photogtaphy initiated forms of application that continue to exist in digital photography and in the sharing of images or selfies on photo portals on the Internet.

“The Polaroid project” presents polaroids by Ansel Adams, Nobuyoshi Araki, Sibylle Bergemann, Anna and Bernhard Blume, Guy Bourdin, Ellen Carey, Chuck Close, Barbara Crane, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Harold Edgerton, Walker Evans, Gisele Friend, Toto Frima, Luigi Ghirri, Hans Hansen, David Hockney, Dennis Hopper, Barbara Kasten, André Kertesz, Ulrich Mack, Robert Mapplethorpe, Robert Rauschenberg, Toshio Shibata, Andy Warhol, William Wegman and many more.

The expo is running till 17 June 2018.
