How many times have you contemplated an artistic work and it talked to you without saying a single word? This is what I feel when contemplating the art of the designer and artist Pedro Luis.
After spending years working in advertising agencies, Pedro took the decision to make a radical change, and after a Hare Krishna retreat , he decided that he had to find his language as an artist. This is how his personal project was born: “Autobiographical Works with the Memory of Others”.
It was between lines, needles, embroidery and old photographs rescued in antique fairs, that he found a way to tell his own story.
Pedro dedicates his time to talk about affection, mixing old memories with manual embroidery in an unusual way, transmitting personal messages where he creates a great pastiche of new stories on top of the stories told before.
According to Pedro, artistic work with fabric and line has the property of healing. It is a way to rescue memories and work with affection.”The movement of sewing is to put the heart and the head in the same place.” It is seeing from another perspective, seeing better of what happened, and understanding oneself better. ¿Cuantas veces has mirado un trabajo artístico y este mismo habla contigo sin decirte una sola palabra? Esto es lo que siento al contemplar el arte del diseñador y artista Pedro Luis.
Después de pasar años trabajando en agencias de publicidad, Pedro tomó de un momento a otro la decisión de realizar un cambio radical, y después de una temporada en un retiro Hare Krishna, decidió que había que encontrar su lenguaje como artista. Fue así que nació su proyecto personal: “Trabajos Autobiográficos con la Memoria ajena”.
Fue entre líneas, agujas, bordados y viejas fotografías rescatadas en ferias de antigüedades, que encontró una manera de contar su propia historia.
Pedro dedica su tiempo para hablar de afectividad mezclando recuerdos antiguos de manera inusitada con bordados manuales, transmitiendo mensajes personales donde crea un gran pastiche de nuevas historias encima de otras ya contadas anteriormente.
Según Pedro, el trabajo artístico con tejido y línea tiene la propiedad de curar. Es una forma de rescatar los recuerdos y de trabajar con afecto. “El movimiento de la costura es poner el corazón y la cabeza en el mismo lugar.” Es ver de otra perspectiva, ver mejor lo que sucedió, y entenderse mejor a sí mismo. Como si tuviera que cerrar una herida abierta. Es una forma de ser resiliente.” (O Globo)
